One Year Ago
It’s been almost exactly one year sinceI received the one of best phone calls of my life. It was the Saturday of Memorial Day Weekend. I had just finished my morning workout and was about to eat breakfast when the phone rang and one of my kids passed it over to me. It was the last person I’d expect to call me on a Saturday morning–my agent, Steven Chudney. He chatted with me for a while saying, “Well I’m about to go out of town for the weekend.” I thought, “That’s really nice, but why did you call to tell me that, Steven?” It didn’t even occur to me that this was THE CALL. Then he told me about the offer he had just received for THE LIMIT as well as one more book from Liesa Abrams at Aladdin/Simon & Schuster. I couldn’t believe it. I’d been hoping and dreaming for this day for so long, imagining how I would react. I’m sure I didn’t say a single word that was inteligible. Forget about breakfast. I was so excited I couldn’t eat a thing.
Then Steven told me he didn’t want me to tell anyone until he was done with the negotiations and that they could take a week or more. AUGH! How could I hold that kind of news in so long? Of course, I had to tell my husband right away, because he was standing there when I hung up the phone and started screaming. Fortunately, the negotiations were done by the next Tuesday and I could start yelling my news off the housetops.
Now my baby, THE LIMIT, is almost all grown up. It will arrive very quickly, on September 7. Over the next few weeks and months before publication, I’m going to blog in more detail about my path to publication. Stay tuned!
